Ragnarok is notorious for not being able to get a proper sequel.
They tried to make a 3d RO2 once. They had an almost complete game that had had numerous alphas and betas in which people got to play it. Then they terminated it. Years of work, just scrapped.
Apparently the game wasn't that good, but I know some people really liked it at the time.
Then they made a WoW clone, and called that the new RO2. This one actually released. In 2012/2013. It flopped of course. I think the international server is trying to fix it or something but it's over. It's not going to be saved.
Then there's ToS which promised to be just like Ragnarok, not a WoW clone or anything. MASSIVE HYPE builds. Then we get the betas. It's linear quest based garbage with terrible classes and the most ridiculous cash shop ever seen. Even koreans call it shit and condemn it.
Now there's this. It looks good, because its RO. Its RO in 3d. But it's for PHONES. And by the looks of it, its based on the Renewal version of the game.
See, the reason people are sacrificing goats in the night praying to the Elder Gods for a RO2, is because they decided they needed to turn the original game into WoW for it to live longer. So they ruined it with a "Renewal" update to make it more modern.
You can't even just play the original game. I know the international servers have a 'retro' server, but from what I hear its just another free to play dead bot farm now with hyper inflated prices.
The Japanese are managing to keep it on life support by having realized the Renewal update was shit, but all the new content being made in Korea will be designed for it. So they decided to rework mechanics, and are even redoing sprites to make it look more like the old, popular RO style.
But its Japan only of course...
