UH, the book of Pomo states that the "I" is a mere illusion.........
There is no person that all iterations of yourself share. There is a set of potential "consciousnesses", each with its own flow of feelings, although at each time the one which dominates gives me the illusion of having only one consciousness and one identity.

In a sense, we're dead all the time, so the final death is just yet another death in a long endless series of deaths.

Despite their bitter views of the world that both Soupy(front man)and Madelyn shares, Madelyn insists to Soupy that the cruel world makes him stronger.

Madelyn wants to drink away her pain in alcohol. She thinks the alcohol is helping her but Soupy says it isn’t. It is in fact making things worse.

In their other song “Devil In My Blood Stream” that is a metaphor for depression that runs in his family. However in this song he is talking about alcoholism. Getting drunk poisons your blood. Madelyn drinks away her pain every night thinking about the past. She moved away from Soupy(lives in Philadelphia) and moved near the Chesapeake Bay.

Madelyn keeps saying she is afraid of death (she could die of alcoholism), but Soupy doesn’t believe her. If she were really afraid of death she would stop drinking and come back home.
