That's not a joke, that's just reality
Consider the following:
Spending one hour in a car or a train to get to work isn't uncommon
You work 8 hours and take 1 hour for lunch
You then spend another hour getting back
Say 1 hour total getting ready for work and showering / changing out of work clothes when you get home if you really hurry and just have something ready made for breakfast you can quickly wolf down
Another hour goes into cooking and eating dinner
Recommended hours of sleep for the average adult person is 8 hours
That's... 21 hours. 3 hours of free time. I've had teachers and coworkers who live 2 hours away from work. They'd have a single hour to spend at their leisure after having finished dinner before they need to get in bed.
And some people, like me, often need 10 hours of sleep to feel refreshed. (though I can get by with 6 hours of sleep, I'll be far from optimal condition to enjoy my day and just shuffle through it)
