This made me remember
I once actually added a few people from /r9k/ (years ago, okay!) on MSN (because I didn't want to use Skype, which was what I used normally)
In short it looked like we (my family) were days away from being evicted, with zero money to get a new place. So I was pretty much on /r9k/ looking for other people who had nothing to lose to just get together and start backpacking and see what happens
Ended up talking for several hours with some Australian anon about life and how to get out of rock bottom
Since I never used MSN again, I wonder if he figured I actually did end up on the streets right after.
