Title: Ragnarok Online

Let's talk about the greatest MMO there ever was.

We now have our very own Ragnarok Online server!

Download the game client here:

https://mega.co.nz/#!z1EWCQ4a!8iCm6h3DmvzRAIeJXIs3R0R7DqLzwPqFaI1i-PhWIcw

Update 7/6/2015:

Apparently, some of the clothing dyes are faulty. Here's a fix!

You don't _need_ this to play, but some people's bodies will look... like a strange mess of pixels.

Just copy paste the contents (data.ini and dyefix.grf) into the apiRO folder, into the same place where apiRO.exe is.

http://www.mediafire.com/download/5ahf1x16dhcfxn9/dyefix.rar

In addition, you need to open your apiRO folder, open the folder called simply 'data' and delete the folder called 'palette'. (This folder has the faulty files, and will over ride the fix unless you delete them)

How to play:

1. Run the game by opening apiRO.exe
2. When prompted to log in, enter your desired username and password, but don't log in yet!
3. First, add _F or _M to the end of the username depending on if you want female or male characters (can only have one gender per account)
4. Make your character
5. Play!

You don't need the _F or _M after this first log in. And you can change window size and other settings by opening opensetup.exe in the same folder as apiRO.exe

Ragnarok was the best and worst thing to happen to me. A lot of 2008-2012 was wasted on that game...

My first character was a Soul Linker which I mained for a long time, then a Champ, but I finally settled on High Priest (support characters are my favorite)

I was a GM for a couple years on a private server, too. That was quite fun.

Being a game master is pretty great. It was so much fun hosting events and just going around helping people and asking them about their day and stuff. (smaller server, everyone knew everyone kind of deal after a while)  :kyaa:

My first character was a thief. I had a lot of intelligence and luck because I thought being clever was good for a thief and that luck would increase drop rate and be useful in all sorts of ways.

 :ded:

I had a lot of favourite classes, assassin, wizard, sage, blacksmith, knight... and I really liked Taekwon when that got released, but trying to become a ranker or keep that position on populated servers... was not a lot of fun.

While we wait, what kind of class do people want to play?

I always enjoyed some of the more easy classes when starting fresh, like the Knight or Assassin. Especially the Assassin, because Knights pretty much spend all their hard earned money on potions if you don't have a priest buddy to party with

(Yes I know, Hunters are probably the best, but I haven't enjoyed Hunters since like, 2006. Don't know why)

For any newcomers who want to join in, here's a basic run down of classes (and for the curious, you can change the hairstyle of the sprite, and the colors. Body base sprite only changes with class change. You can wear different headgear to further customize your look):

Archer. Uses a bow and arrow. Arrows can have different elements to them, and usually, this means doing almost double damage on everything if you got the right arrows.

Can advance into 1) Hunter, gaining the ability to use traps and command a falcon. DPS type.
Or 2) Bard (male) / Dancer (female) which gains the ability to play music or dance respectively, to buff party members. Support type, but can still do damage.

Swordsman. Uses standard melee weapons, swords primarily as the name suggests.

Can advance into 1) Knight, gaining expertise with either swords or spears. Can ride a mount. DPS, tank, or a hybrid type of both.
Or 2) Crusader, gaining access to holy skills, a typical paladin. Can also ride a mount. Same types as Knight, but can also build to do magic AoE and does a better job as a tank than the Knight does overall.

Acolyte. Your standard full support class. Heals and buffs with holy power.

Can advance into 1) Priest, which gains access to more, lovely support skills. Full support type, but can do a melee hybrid, but it's not very fun to level in my opinion.
Or 2) Monk, as in the martial artist kind. Punch things hard and fast (or use a mace). Gains the use of combo skills, one in particular can one-hit just about anyone but will leave you depleted of resources. DPS type, can tank really well however, even with without straying far from a DPS build. Can also build into a one-hit-wonder nuke user.

Thief. Your standard DPS auto attacker that's really fast, dodges a lot, but when hit it hurts. Uses dagger and shield. Can steal items from monsters.

Can advance into 1) Assassin, gains the ability to use Katars ("punch daggers"), dual wield (daggers, usually), use poison skills, and can cloak. DPS type, can build to nuke.
Or 2) Rogue, gains the ability to use bows, can copy skills used on him, and can strip others of their equipment. Can also cloak. Not not recommended outside PVP. Dick ass thief type.

Magician. Casts spells to kill things in flashy ways.

Can advance into 1) Wizard, gains really good AoE magic. AoE damage type.
Or 2) Sage, gains the ability to attack and move around while casting spells simultaneously, and can dispel and and cancel spells being cast by other players. Can also enchant weapons with elemental damage (potentially doubling DPS classes damage output). Hybrid type.

Merchant. Buy for less, sell for more. Gets a fancy cart and can set up a shop like an NPC with it. Weak melee type before advancing, but makes money.

Can advance into 1) Blacksmith. Makes weapons (better than you can buy). And is also super manly and really strong in melee unlike his merchant past self. Uses lots of self buffs. DPS type, but can go full forge type.
Or 2) Alchemist. Makes potions (better than you can buy). Gets a pet. And can spawn a couple types of monsters. Pretty weak in melee himself, but later on gets a melee skill which one hit kills players and heavily damages bosses. Support type with a nuke.

There are a few special classes too. Super Novice, Taekwon Kid, Gunslinger, and Ninja. These are for the most part, not on the same level as the previously mentioned and more for fun / the developers gave up actually finishing their class trees.

Swordsman.

It's Swordman, casual.

+1, Wizard (not for PvP).

Is merchant fun to play?
I want to go maximum jew.
It's that, or an acolyte advancing into a monk.
Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: lmoa on May 17, 2015, 05:14:54 PM
Merchant is slow if unfunded, mediocre if funded+geared (for a funded+geared character). Would suggest if you like the slow grind on weak mobs. Monk is similar really (might be even slower early), but gets a lot faster come 2nd class.
Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: McJongJing on May 17, 2015, 05:32:11 PM
Merchant sounds like shit then.
Is it worth sticking it out with the monk until he gets better then?

Title: Re: Ragnarok Online

Monk a is hard route to take. Mostly because prior to becoming a Monk, you're a squishy support with next to no damage output. Levelling is painful. Luckily, you got api to protect your butt and do all the damage for you! So don't get discouraged. I for one love monks  :kyaa:

Because once you do become a Monk, things change quickly! You start beating things up nicely. Disadvantages are your skills do drain resources quickly if you want to keep your DPS at max so you have to restrain yourself often, and you don't really have any proper AoE options at any level.

What I love about monks though is that they have a lot versatility other mostly auto attacking classes don't. For one, you get an amazing nuke which helps ever so much against bosses and in PvP of course. Another is Mental Strength, which gives you 90% damage reduction. This, is godly. Dedicated tanks with exceptional equipment can't compare to this amount of damage soaking you can do. Does disable you from using skills while you have it active though, and it slows you down. And it's temporary. If it runs out in a bad situation, you're dead.

Another cool thing is Snap. Snap moves you from point A to point B at super sonic speed. No one can out run you, no one can catch up to you.

The drawback to all the versatility is of course, it takes a lot of skill points to get all the cool stuff, so you have to make some sacrifices if you want to specialize.

Archer is also a great class choice

It wouldn't be very efficient if we both specialised in the same thing.

If you both want healer/support one of you could go priest? I've never played this game so I'm not sure if that would be useless.
Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: lmoa on May 17, 2015, 06:38:05 PM
The only classes who can really party effectively are Priests and maybe bards/dancers. Otherwise, leveling solo is often the most efficient.

Oh, and monks don't really do much in a party unless we need to tank some things or to mob less effectively than swordman classes.

Come to think of it, we have no priests. That's probably going to be me at this rate.
Title: Re: Ragnarok Online

I think we both want to punch things.
I can go priest if no one else wants to play support though.

Read Mings description of Monks.
Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: Ming on May 17, 2015, 06:39:31 PM
Monk is no silly support. They're BEACONS OF SPIRITUAL STRENGTH, RIPPLING ABS AND STEELY FISTS.

They start as a support because no pain no gain.

Also, it's totally fine to have 2 monks in one party.
Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: Ollistar on May 17, 2015, 06:40:40 PM
I'll take archer and work my towards dancer, since we have 2 healer types and from what I've read they debuff enemies more than buff allies.
Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: Ming on May 17, 2015, 06:44:57 PM
Monk doesn't heal. They punch.
Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: lmoa on May 17, 2015, 06:45:58 PM
Dancers don't debuff enemies in not-pvp. In PvM, they provide a song that decreases SP usage by a lot. Monks won't be healer types since they won't use their SP on the minimal healing they have with minimal INT (though they can buff). IMO we need bard a lot more if we don't have one already.

I'll probably end up making all of the support classes myself anyways  :nyoron:

Edit: Actually, I guess I could multiclient a priest? I'm not a huge fan of multiclienting but if it needs to be done, I'll do it. I actually quite like priests, but I also can't keep myself from slaying teh mobs.

Oh, and Saders are nice too

Is it a grindfest?

EDIT: And another thing:

"Changing into an Assassin from a Thief requires the player to complete a number of tasks:

    A Written Test
    An Assassination Test
    An Endurance Test
    A Maze test"

What the fuck is this, getting my driver's license?
Title: Re: Ragnarok Online

License to kill actually

All class changes involves one or more tests. It's nothing difficult and you can try as many times as you want. It's all just for fun / invoking a sense of actually trying out to become part of an organization or a trade in the world.

Game is very fun, but it's like, THE game that started the rumor that korean MMOs were grindfests.

Don't worry though, I'll be increasing the rates at which you get experience and loot. Not too much mind you, but just so it doesn't get tedious to progress.

Kinda torn between knight and crusader for a second class.
Crusader has some neat skills and looks pretty versatile, but knights don't look too bad either.
I also like the knight's sprite better.

Sader/Paladin is mostly played as a support class, but it's possible to roll a nuking/farming build. Some cool utility skills.

Knight just mobs and kills things with moderate efficiency. No real utility, just a fast and fat thing that mobs melee and moderate melee AoE damage.

I don't think they have any deal with steam just yet. Afaik steam doesn't contact the company/person behind greenlight games until after they've been greenlit.

Going to be playing a Barbarian. I know you play multiple classes, but I'm going to pick everything else to benefit the Barbarian skill set specifically.

Similarily, the Bokor (turns monsters into zombie minion class with seemingly a very high, or no cap, on how many you can have) from the cleric tree.

Puppeteer has been announced, but only the name, nothing about gameplay. But if it let's you control dolls or enemy monsters, I'll be all over that for sure too.

Yes! I just got to put together the game client so people can play.

But it seems all the files and stuff I need have vanished from the internet so I'm kind of stuck :poh:

(I'm setting up an older version of the game, which is vastly different from the game of today or I'd just do the latest)

Yes! But just before bed I found out in the new emulation software you can disable renewal mechanics and features one by one. But I'm also reading how leads to NPCs just disappearing that shouldn't and stuff. But I'm going to try that and see how it works.

Does mean I have to set everything up all over again though

Okay everything is working now, I think...

Just one problem left I hope, which is that all text in the game is neither in English or Korean, but total gibberish. Once I fix this, I'll make a torrent of the game folder, and people can just download that to play.

Game is about 2gb, and I got a good upload connection, so there should be no problems. If someone for whatever reason can't use torrents (disabled on campus network for example) tell me and I'll see about uploading a .rar in parts on mega or something.

OKAY. I _think_ I've got everything solved now.

I haven't configured any custom server settings, like faster experience gain, yet though. So I'll be taking the server offline while fixing that stuff.

Meanwhile, you can start downloading the game by grabbing the direct download from here:

Server is up. See above post for download link!

To run the game, run apiRO.exe, and stay away from the other .exe files.

To change window size, toggle fullscreen, sound, graphics, etc, run opensetup.exe in the same folder.

HOW TO REGISTER AN ACCOUNT:

When prompted to login, enter the username and password you would like, then add _M or _F to the end of the username.

For example,
Username: Ming_F
Password: NotGay123

_M creates a male account, and _F a female account. All characters made on the account will be locked to this gender. Don't bother me about it, but Korea's net safety policies in 2002.

You only need to add _M/_F when registering, after that use your normal username to sign in.

Features:

Rates:
Base Experience: 18x
Job Experience: 24x
Item drop rate: 30x

Special:
Equipment rate: 35x
Card rate: 20x
MVP card rate: 100x

Custom NPCs:
Stylist (free, change hairstyle, hair colour, and cloth colour)
Reset Girl (500k to reset either stats or skills, 900k to reset both)

Other:
Rare drops (1% chance or below) are announced to all players
Characters within a range of 30 levels can share experience with each other when in a party
25% more monsters and faster re-spawn
Pets attack and level up
Baby classes have a stat cap of 99 (up from default 80)
Same-sex marriage enabled
Gender locked items can be used by either gender
War of Emperium is disabled (for now)

Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: lmoa on May 29, 2015, 09:37:13 PM
Where you were was Izlude. If you hadn't walked out of the portal you probably would have been able to job.

Now the entire area around what was supposed to be the job-change-building is blocked off by dead tiles (water?) and you're not able to get in again.

Just have to wait for Ming I guess.
In the meantime, you can look around in the wiki and stuff

http://irowiki.org/classic/Main_Page
You probably want to do the novice survey
http://irowiki.org/classic/Training_Grounds_Novice_Test
Then look for your respective job change guide (ie. mage)
http://irowiki.org/classic/Mage_Job_Change_Guide

Some basic stat outlines:
Knights:
(SVD - STR/VIT/DEX, your standard mobbing and killing knight)
A bit of dex (20-40) followed by mostly VIT and STR (mostly VIT, as you want the hp and soft def)
(AGI - single target ctrl-clicking. Niche uses, not recommended)
Some DEX rest AGI

Archer classes:
Generally want almost pure DEX for leveling purposes. You might want some AGi for attack speed and FLEE. INT is also nice on Bard and Dancer classes.

Priest:
(Support)
Minimal DEX, rest INT (until about 80-99), rest VIT
(ME - AOE nuking priest on undead/demon. Costly in blue gems. Not recommended for newbies.
50-70 INT, rest DEX, some VIT
(TU - Turn Undead priest. A very quick leveling build, though lacks as much supporting capabilities)
Moderate DEX with high INT, moderate LUK, some VIT

Wizard:
Int to about 70-80, rest into DEX (90+). Maybe some VIT, top off INT

Monk:
(Asura. The popular 1shot wonder)
Some DEX, stacks STR to 70-80+? Gets high DEX (80+), maybe some VIT.
(Combo. AGI class, punches things with flashy combos. Lacks damage and mobbing.)
Some DEX (30-40ish), some STR, stacks AGI.

Thief:
Some base DEX (40 is pretty standard), a bit of STR, stacks AGI forever -> fills out STR

Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: Ming on May 30, 2015, 06:38:22 AM
Well... it's indeed a case of the files for the warps not matching up to the maps themselves.

I'll keep looking around.

I don't actually recommend playing the game as it is right now, but the server will be remain online for those who are brave enough to play anyway.

Okay, anyone who was in Prontera, has now been moved to Geffen. Save points have also been changed to Geffen. (A save point is where you return to after you die, or use a butterfly wing to teleport there. You can set a new save point by speaking to the Kafra in the town you want as your new save point)

Anyone reading this, please stay away from Prontera. That map will crash your game, and your character will be stuck there always crashing you when you try to play on it until I move you to another town manually.

 :tears:
Title: Re: Ragnarok Online

Oh yeah, there is a chance I may have to delete and redo everything. This means all characters and accounts will be lost.

Yeah Prontera is pretty much the worst town to go bonkers, because pretty much every quest ever needs you to go there at least once. And it's the like the hub you usually travel through to get around the world map too.

Work resumes tomorrow. Server will be closed and wiped when I begin. This means, all accounts, characters, items, etc will be deleted.

I might offer some sort of level boost for a new character at re-launch if there's any people who will lose significant progress from the wipe, since I feel bad about wiping.

Now if everything works out, I'll re-open the server Friday morning my time before going to work (so MJJ can play on his Friday Night if he wants to) so let us hope for the best!

Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: Ming on June 03, 2015, 11:18:37 AM
As far as I know, no. We're stuck with it.

Think I almost have Izlude fixed now too. Old pre-renewal map in place, and now everything is placed correctly like it should be. Just need to update the server with where you're allowed to walk and where not because it's still using the new maps data to determine that.

Still no idea on how to fix the skills that cause the client to crash though.
Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: Ming on June 03, 2015, 11:20:28 AM
I see someone is online. Don't tempt fate!

The Prontera fix is client side, so in short, you will still crash and get stuck.
Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: Ming on June 03, 2015, 11:46:45 AM
Okay, got it, I know why the game crashes when you use certain skills. There's some files that aren't compatible with my emulator that were packaged with one of the translation packs I use.

Question is which file, or files, that are causing the trouble.

I might actually solve all the problems without wiping and tediously setting everything up again.

People will need to download the game again though, with all my fixes and changes.
Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: Ming on June 03, 2015, 01:40:03 PM

Ragnarok is back!

New game download:

https://mega.co.nz/#!z1EWCQ4a!8iCm6h3DmvzRAIeJXIs3R0R7DqLzwPqFaI1i-PhWIcw

(Yes, you must download this new folder to play without all the bugs, feel free to delete the old game folder)

In addition to solving all the bugs, I've nearly doubled the rate at which you gain experience. I intended this to be temporary for the re-opening, but upon thinking about it, it would be painful to suddenly get half exp just as you reach high levels which are painful to grind to begin with.

If you have any questions about the game, just ask!

The very basics:

Click the ground to walk there
Click to attack a monster (usually, you'll keep auto attacking it by default, if not, type /nc into the chat bar and press enter)
You can double click skills in your skill window (ctrl + S to open) to use them.
You can press f12 to get a hotbar you can drag skills and items to. The f keys matching the number of the hotbar slot is what you want to press to use them.
By typing @autoloot, you will loot all items automatically instead of having to pick them up (type it again to turn it off)

3 days?! How long did you spend downloading the WoW private server?!

Edit: Oh yeah, I checked the server before I went to work to see if anyone actually bothered to play.

And there was like 8 level 50-60+ characters

I'm impressed

Do people know where to buy equipment by the way? And good spots to level? (For 60-80 I usually go to either the Sphinx east of Morroc, or Toy Factory, north from Lutie which you can warp to from the Aldeberan Kafra (and you get there in turn from... Geffen, I believe)

@autoloot has beed fixed. (I had forgotten to make it available to all players)

I'll set up a global chat either today or tomorrow so people can actually talk to each other properly.

---

When I made my character, I foolishly decided to skip the training ground. A lone novice thus was dropped in Alberta, with no money, no healing items, and no sweet novice training gear.

Making enough money to get to Morroc, then enough to buy a proper knife so I could kill my way to the Thief Guild was a pain. But nostalgic!

Pro Tip for prospective thieves: Unequipping your weapon and punching mushrooms is a faster way to kill them! Same for plants. These "monsters" never take more than 1 damage per hit, so the faster attack speed of being unarmed is of great benefit.

When I made my character, I foolishly decided to skip the training ground. A lone novice thus was dropped in Alberta, with no money, no healing items, and no sweet novice training gear.

What?

In any case, downloading now.

Spent a bit of time today completing the tutorial.

I'm in a desert city now, so...how do I become a thief?

Also, uh...Ming, buddy, you there?

I sorta kinda, uh, forgot my password.  :owo:

Think you could PM it to me?
Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: Ming on June 06, 2015, 05:13:06 AM
I'm here now, was sleeping.

I'll pm it to you.

To become a thief, you must enter the pyramid located on the map that's through the north-west warp portal in the desert town (Morroc).

The pyramid is in the north west corner on that map.

Enter and you'll find yourself in a maze. Your goal is to reach the middle where there's a warp to the basement.

Go through and walk down the corridor until you get to a warp to the left. The Thieves Guild reception desk is in there. Speak to the grill. She'll tell you to go steal Mushrooms from a farm.

You can get to the farm by exiting the pyramid, and finding a NPC on the map who's called Irrelevant Man or something like that. There's a crap ton of NPCs on this map now (there used to be like 5) so it might take a while to find him.

He'll warp you to the Mushroom farm. There you need to steal the mushrooms by... killing them. You need enough for 25 points (get some extra and you get a little cash reward). With our high drop rates, each mushroom will give 4 points worth of 'shrooms.

When done, make your way to the exit which is the little path you see on the map at the bottom center.

Go back to the Theives' reception and speak to the guy. DO NOT, speak to Irrelevant Man again, he'll warp you straight back to the farm and you'll have to walk all the way through to the exit again.

For better help, you should probably check the wiki linked in the OP.

Google says;

Quote
Very very common issue.

When the NPC asked you what kind of weapon you wanted, you tabbed out to look up which was the better choice. But all npc conversations time out after 1 minute (or is it 2?), so the convo timed out - so the npc didn't give you the necklace or weapon, but it has marked you as having completed that convo, so he won't talk to you again.

You can still complete the quest by getting it by other means. It does drop from monsters (but the chance is low).

I'll be back on in 10, 20 minutes from posting this. Whisper me in-game (IGN: Yuuka) and I'll get on my GM account and make it for you.

To whisper/personal message, see the above image about #main chat, but enter the character name (Yuuka) instead of #main.

Update.

MVP cards now drop at 25x instead of 100x, as people who hunt regularly would be able to get quite an advantage. (The high rate was supposed to let casual players have a chance to play with these powerful cards)
Cloth colour options upped from 4 to 77.
You can find the stylist to change your colours and hairstyle in the town center of Prontera.
Also in the center of Prontera you will find the Reset Girl, who can reset your skill and stats. For a fee~

So, I went to that pyramid area...

And got killed in 3 hits by the first enemy I saw.

I figured I was supposed to grind, but couldn't find anywhere else that wasn't full of even tougher enemies, so I eventually worked out that I can get through a fight with a bat if I consume about 10-15 of the 300ish potions I was given, or about 50 to kill a slime.

Most of my deaths were either due to lag on my potion drinking hotkey, or the pathfinding either getting stuck on the stairs, or going in the wrong direction for basically no reason.

I'm out of potions now, so unless someone runs me through, I'm basically screwed.

When does the fun start?

Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: Ming on June 07, 2015, 04:15:44 AM
The slimes aren't aggressive, afteryou first realized how tough they are you should've run and left them alone until you git gud (about level 25-30 with the basic thief skills).  :damn:

As for the bats (which are actually quite famous as death incarnate at lower levels, especially to a certain healing class...~)

Did you equip the items you got at the training ground? They should make you quite tough along with the ridiculous amount of potions. Trade off being the gear can only be used as long as you're a novice. Well, "tough" but strong enough to survive the bats. Have you allocated stat points? In which stats?

Try not fighting more than one at a time if you have a choice, and try to pull them one at a time if there are many, and don't run through because you'll get a train of them after you, get stuck somewhere because lol 2002 era pathfinding in a maze, and die.

Anyway, I'll help you! Just message Yuuka in game and I'll get over there straight away. I'll be on most of the day euro time.

RO is from an era where the 'school of hard knocks' was hilarious for the sadistic developers. Indeed, the game didn't even have the training area when I started playing to help you with knowledge and those sweet itams.

Edit: Oh yeah

I can give you some thief gear (and money)

Should help you out a lot when you change

Playing an AGI class, you have to understand FLEE.
http://irowiki.org/classic/FLEE

AGI is your primary defensive stat, as your survivability is based upon dodging enemy attacks. You don't want to have more than 3 instances of attacking enemies on you at the same time or else your FLEE will actually drop astronomically.

So basically you want to maybe get some STR (I wouldn't go past 20-30 early on), some DEX (up to 40, maybe like 20 early on depending on what you're killing) and dump the rest on AGI (to at least 80ish, probably to 90+ eventually).

I would suggest going to wolves when you hit 25ish, then proceeding to toy factory at mid levels (40-60ish). Be cautious of the assist nature of wolves, as they mob to assist an attacking wolf in range.

When mobs get too much to handle, carry fly wings to get you out of bad situations.

Gomen gomen

It seems there's need for a small (2mb) patch, the cloth dyes for advanced jobs aren't working correctly, seems the files were corrupted or something.

Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: Ming on June 08, 2015, 12:25:17 AM
Quick reply because gotta rush to work

You can stop upping dex for now, focus on AGI for now (because better attack speed AND dodge) and STR doesn't pay off right now either

For you I'd recommend Payon Dungeon. Since you can keep progressing there for a while.

lvl 1: Easy for your level
lvl 2: Try at 40+ with maxed Double Attack and Improve Dodge, careful around rangers
lvl 3: I thiiink enemies here have about 3000-4000 health
lvl 4: 55-60ish I believe is when you should venture here (Sohee's are what you want to kill)

Getting there:

Speak to the Kafra, warp to Prontera. Go to either exit, there's Kafras by them. Teleport to Payon. Go up one map, and at the top left you'll see cave entrance with a warp. (to the right of it, there's a house with a tool dealer for potions and supplies)

post suggestions~

I want to make a list of stuff to get to. I'll probably not get around to it until my vacation in a months time though.

Currently, I want to do some quality of life stuff like maybe add a Kafra to the center of Prontera, Lutie, and a Tool Dealer in Morroc.

Adjust where you can memo warps, use dead branches, etc.

Maybe a direct warp to PvP as well.

The creation of a 'main town' is also on the list (making one place the hub for important NPCs so everyone has a convenient gathering place for the purpose of getting parties and chat started).

Something more original I want to do is creating a trading NPC who you can trade tokens with for items that otherwise are unobtainable, either because we don't have a cash shop, or the devs never bothered to actually make the item drop in the first place. I swear this game has more content than any other just... fully created and then never actually added anywhere in the game world.

Sort of pondering buffing some older stuff too, primarily hats. Adding slots would likely be the go-to thing, or copy pasting the stats and abilities of newer/better hats over to some of them.

Title: Re: Ragnarok Online
Post by: Ming on June 19, 2015, 10:54:42 AM
afaik Mobster only spawn one at a time at seals unless something has changed in my time away.

It would take far too long to hunt for my tastes. Assaulter is kind of an okay replacement too (only 10% crit damage, but 3% more crit rate over Mobster in PvP / vs demi-human)

Paper is on my list.  :wink:  I'm just going bare bones right now for the rate;

2 skellies for 18 crit (leaving room for 1 The Paper Card), 12 crit from brooches, and the remaining 20 from 60 total LUK which also helps with the curse-self effect from the brooches.

I'll eventually swap brooches for Rings with Goblin cards for the extra STR bonus and no annoying self cursing, but brooches are super easy to get once you have enought crit to kill Teddy Bears as they're way too hard to hit without massive DEX/HIT.

1. Yes, especially with friends

But as has been pointed out, this game has zero hand holding

Gonna need to ask for help and refer to guides often

2. She's just a minor NPC that doesn't really do or say much

She's called Wickebine and for some reason she became really popular just because she has cat ears and a tail

I even felt she was really cool and attractive because of it. Must be magic (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧

What I really liked was the lack of hand holding.
It drops you in a big world and says, "fuck you, figure shit out on your own"

My ADD didn't like this so I haven't played past the tutorial area. Like I don't want hand holding but I couldn't even figure out how to become a fucking merchant to start the game.

Try the wiki.
Or ask Ming.

I don't know

I'll get back into RO next week (along with Terraria). Next few days are Skyrim centered.

I'll probably offer to trade a certain number of cards (as long as they're all different) for any not godly hat.

Kinda want to play again (ノ´д`)

The server is down, probably for good, because of the malware (I'm going to try and salvage as much as I can one of these days, even if just for archival purposes)

But how do people feel about playing on the official servers?

It's even on steam! And free of course, with cash shop and all that stuff though

Trade off is that it's very slow to level up and drop rates are very low

So much so that I bothered to go through with all this api private server trouble in the first place :nyoron:

Quick edit: Actually I wouldn't mind getting back into Phantasy Star Online 2, if anyone would like that, but it seems every time we try to play it doesn't last for very long (game is just too repetitive tbh for long plays)

I just haven't been able to come up with a character I want to roleplay as, I'm sorry

Until earlier today that is

Now I want to play as a homeless little girl, who can't read or write. She's got a dog as her only friend and protector. She steals things to get by, and she has become very good at not being seen or noticed.

She doesn't know who her parents are, and she ran away from an orphanage where she was being abused.

Though very sad and lonely, she has a warm heart waiting for a chance to connect to people.

One day she discovered she has the power to freeze things by touch while being attacked by a pervert. She doesn't know that she can transform into a magical girl yet though.

I envision her using ice magic, and eventually, with the POWER OF LOVE AND TRUE FRIENDSHIP, she becomes able to manifest the fire in her heart as a bright pink flame to fight back the darkness that would hurt those precious to her!

Play the game, you know you can't quit until it's won
Soldier on, only you can do what must be done
You know in some way you're a lot like me
You're just a prisoner, and you're tryin' to break free!
