Improvised worldbuilding blurb:
A long, hard, bitter war had left Japan, as well as most of the world, exonomically, structurally, and socially devestated. In the ensuing volatile political climate, a subset of the nation's elite began rallying support on political extremism, citing a need to return to "tradition" to restore the nation to its former glory. These men lied cheated, promised, and stole their way to seats of power, effectively encapsulating the increasingly irrelevant government, until without warning, they, in their now endless bids for power, turned on each other. They came to fragment the country, and suddenly, the people of Japan found themselves engaged in a cold war against each other. Vast cities were erected, immense factories built, legions of workers, dignitaries, experts, and more were brought to fufill the impossible dreams of these now self styled "daimyo." Unbelievable innovations were dreamed up in the fields of metahumanism, computers, weaponry, and biotics. However, the so called daimyo, in their zeal, had built to big, dreamed to far, soared too high. Under the impossible weight of their ambitions, each of their city states degenerated from the disorganization, overpopulation, and economic unsustainability. Today, life in Japan is chaotic, fragile, and uncertain. Food, money, and shelter are increasingly rare commodities, armies of worker "peasants" toil endlessly to feed their families, more literal armies keep them in line, oppressive city blocks can erupt into anarchy and return within a day, and the threat of hostilities between the daimyo remains a certainty. In the ashes, a growing member of the population, disenfranchised with the lies, low quality of life, and hopelessness have taken up to applying their skills as dubiously accepted mercenaries, guns for hire, couriers, hackers, and other positions for daimyo, criminals, and other factions still. These renegades have come to be known as "Ronin."
(I'll probably do a blurb with some factions, more details, etc later)
