Yeah uh, appearance is a pretty big deal.

Clean shave + proper haircut is a must along with good attire. Don't need to be handsome, just look like you put some effort into how you present yourself.

If you look like you can't groom yourself, your also looking like you won't be able to take the job seriously.

I hate how I look perfectly clean shaven, but when I go out for a job interview or whatever, I make sure my beard's trimmed, I'm dressed in a button down shirt and slacks, and my hair's tied back and slicked.

People have told me I look good like that before! :cry:

Well guess what, the bazillion other cnadidates don't have long hair so there's no chance of them forgetting or something. They see long hair and think "this is a man who cannot be bothered to cut his hair. Instead of taking the time to cut it and look presentable, he tied it back, he used a stopgap measure. Clearly he is not reliable"
