What did everybody do this weekend?
I'm still sick, but I've watched some anime and played some Touhou (official and fan games)
Been doing the odd 30 minute dungeon diving in Terraria too
Well, I've been playtesting a dude's homebrew tabletop RPG over roll20, with him as the GM, which is pretty neat.
Last session (So, yesterday) I got my hero moment.
First, some background:
One of the other players is roleplaying as a musclegirl fighter obsessed with the honor of her family, to the point that she'll fight anyone who slights it, even if they don't mean to.
My character's class is "Thief", but I'm built more like a dirty fighter, a bit like a swashbuckler, I suppose, and roleplaying as a con man sort of guy, which hasn't been working out too well so far, mainly due to abysmal rolls, in and out of combat.
Anyway, we had recently competed in a group arena fight and emerged champions, and were stepping up to accept our rewards in front of a crowd. The GM's really tired at this point, so he was planning for this to be straightforward, but rolled on a table to see if anything happens anyway.
We ended up with a single heckler towards the front as we accepted.
Before the GM had even shut his mouth, musclegirl throws her shield at him.
The GM, who's gotten used to this sort of thing by now, just scoffs and says "Great. He's dead. We'll pick up next time when you get arrested."
Now, the reason we've tolerated this behavior so far, is because:
a): Some of the party members are sworn to protect her
b):She's the most dangerous member of the party by far
At this point, we start trying to work out how to weasel our way out of murder.
Our first guess was asking if the person she killed was a peasant, because if so, one death shouldn't be TOO hard to take care of.
The GM rolls...
"He looks pretty rich."
I start trying to think of how to spin this to make us look innocent, so my first guess was to somehow paint it like the guy was going to attack us. Of course, he doesn't have any weapons on him, and trying to tamper with a corpse in a crowd from a distance isn't going to work.
Instead, I discretely drop my dagger on the ground and shout out that I saw the guy throw it at her.
At this point, all the other players start telling me OOC that I'm an idiot, and that I'm going to end up in jail too, now. But one other party member decides to compound my story.
The GM, suddenly sounding less sleepy, tells us to roll our charisma.
We do so. We roll ok, not great. Our sum total needs to pass 3 opposing rolls.
...
...
...
We make it. Barely. Sensing an opportunity, my co-conspirator declares that the man was clearly attempting to assassinate the official, and that [Charname] is a hero.
So, basically, we went from aggravated assault and murder to heroes.
I was awarded 50 bonus XP for my efforts.
