Don't know about it, but yes, the writing is quite poor. A lot of things in the game are of low quality to be honest.

I don't actually like the TES games much as they are, but I like the idea of what they are trying to be, so I let a lot of things slide and I can use mods to help it along. And they are taking more steps forward than back certainly with each one, so who knows, maybe in the future they'll make it great.

I really wish I had the resources to make my own open world fantasy RPG, but that's never going to happen.  :damn:

There's RPG maker.
Not sophisticated, but I'm sure you could make a grand adventure if you use it well.

I've been looking at and reading up on mods for hours

I feel like I'm not going to need one evening to get everything installed. But two.

There's just so many juicy graphics mods

And in the end I'm going to be getting 15 fps or something I bet too to reward my efforts.

Do you not enjoy challenge?

I'd have done it even if it wasn't OP.

I finished modding the environmental graphics for now. Compared to Vanilla, or any time previously I've modded Skyrim, it's 10 times better, and surprisingly runs quite well, I think I'm at 40-50 fps.  :kyaa:

Here are some shots I took on my way through the tutorial and on the road to Helgen. (scaled down and converted to jpg)

Dat ground texture

Water doesn't look as plastic in motion

Probably the only mod I always get, Lanterns of Skyrim. Adds lanterns to most roads and places that needs 'em. Adds so much to the atmosphere, especially at night.

Some trees go way too much on the green. I'm guessing it's the vibrancy settings of the ENB.

Last shot before closed the game because my computer was burning up. It's super hot today. Next up is character models. Might have to wait until night time though.

Did the mods fix the games combat, quests, and story?

Don't be like that just as I'm trying to play the game.

I haven't touched combat mods for this install yet, I'll trial and error my way through some once I have my visuals all set up.

But I bet you can make it pretty decent. I know there are mods for damage based on location, enabling dodge moves, more deadly hits (for you and the enemy), better (and deadlier) enemy AI, making enemies use more skills, improved animations of course, and for making stamina impact both swing speed and damage.

There are several quest mods out there and whole storylines, I haven't really tried them out, but I know from mod reviews that a lot seem way more exciting with many times the effort of anything vanilla. Some even have 3d platforming if that's your thing.

Tried to add jiggle physics.

Now the game freezes my computer whenever I try to play.

I recall there being a mod that literally improved textures at no cost by replacing the shit meshes. Anyone remember what I'm talking about?

Pretty sure that would be the static mesh mod, which, does decrease performance as it adds polygons.

(Which I'm running, along with 2k parallax textures for pretty much everything).

74 mods later and I think I'm finally ready to actually play this game

Oh god

Looks like I made my game a little bit too difficult

I died in two hits from a bandit, and just falling a distance equal to my body height killed me too.

Then I died once again by falling, but this time because I use a heavy weather mod that nearly makes you blind in heavy snow. That it was night (I have very dark nights) didn't help at all either. I walked right off a cliff

(I use alternate start - live another life, so I begin the game in a random location at a random time, and I keep spawning in poor mountain conditions)

Sounds like you'll have to unmod your game a little bit.
