I think it genuinely deserves the hype. It gets a bit up its ass at times, but the characters feel real which I think is what matters in a series like this. Another thing that people forget about EVA is that the first half, before all the psychological stuff, is one of the best monster of the week sort of shows.

I watched all of it and the first 2 movies I think and it feels kinda "entry level mecha" but wasn't awful. I liked all girls but Asuka appeals to my love of Germans, redheads, and crazy bitches so I'll side with her.

Eva is entry level mecha. It's decent I guess. Shinji is an unjustified little shit and he singlehandedly ruined the series for me. I can't even watch the rest of the movies.

Eva technically isn't mecha :wink: Entry level doesn't necessarily mean bad. I think your level of enjoyment hinges on liking Shinji.

It's mecha enough. Eva is pretty "normie" now-a-days it seems. Shinji a shit. At least Amuro is admirable at times and actually matures a bit. Shinji just pussies out and lets all his friends die.

They aren't TECHNICALLY mechas ;^) I don't remember Shinji actually letting anyone die because of his own cowardliness though. Please point out the deaths that Shinji is responsible for. I do think though that his character development comes way too late though. He has it in a last minute monologue. But at least had has a decent reason to be depressed. I'd be fucking depressed if all my friends died.

Asuka (sort of) Misato (100% his fault) His jock friend whose name I can't be assed to remember.
Basically if he would have just gotten in the fucking robot no one would have died (with some obvious exceptions)

Asuka he couldn't save because unit01 was covered in balkanite. Toji was gendos fault for activating the manual override. You could argue Misato. But I can hardly blame the kid. If the army was out to murder me I'd freeze up too.
