I had satellite TV as a child and I watched all that I could that was available.
DBZ
Trigun
YYH
Case Closed
Cowboy Bebop
Crest of the Stars
Read or Die
G Gundam
Gundam Wing
Sailor Moon
Silent Mobius
and some others that I no doubt left out.
Then I got a high speed internet connection in late 2005.
I streamed a bunch of stuff, can't really remember that period clearly. Among some of the stuff I watched was Blood+, the Patlabor OVA, and my first subbed anime was Di Gi Charat.
Evangelion was the first thing I downloaded after learning about torrents. It took days but it was worth it. Then in about 2010 or so I started to watch currently airing stuff. My backlog is dauntingly huge. :kyaa:
Like fifteen years and a few hard drives later, I'm here.

I started learning Japanese this summer and decided to watch anime to help me. I had been meaning to watch a few series but never found an excuse to do so.
As a kid I watched the regular stuff, but after grade school the only anime I watched were death note, ttgl and psycho pass
Basically I am new to anime
-
there was toonami when i was a kid but i didnt really get super into anime/manga/VNs until after high school during a time when i had no friends. now its stuck with me
-
Started watching inuyasha.
thennnn i don't know i kind of decided i liked it
-
My first was Sailor Moon, on TV as a little kid. But it wasn't until me early teens that I really got into the hobby proper.
I got introduced to the Dragonball manga by a friend when I was 12. That lead to me watching some DBZ when I got good internet (it never aired here).
Around the same time I discovered Ragnarok Online and through that was exposed to the anime community (it was very much a weeb game). Curious and hungry for more after DB and DBZ, I watched entry level things of the time like Chrono Crusade, D.N Angel, Matentai Loki Ragnarok, etc. I got into Naruto too through a friend in middle school.
The anime had just started airing and I think there were like 8 episodes subbed out. I already knew about the manga, and since I couldn't find many episodes to download reliably through the P2P I was using, that got me into reading scanlations. Always having been a fan of comics and books, I got into that big time, especially when e-readers like OneManga popped up. Anime was doomed to taking a backseat from then on.
Even today, I don't really watch much.

I watched Sailor Moon, Cardcaptors, Inyusha and Dragon Ball as a kid on YTV, and I went through a weeaboo phase later in elementary school due to some of my friends being into anime
I stopped watching anime in 2007 or something but got back into it a few years ago!
-
Toonami. Then in 2009 I saw End of Evangelion and I was forever changed.
-
family member owned an anime shop as a kid that had all kinds of import stuff. I was buying gundam models, import toys, and vhs tapes of stuff that wasn't even released here yet as an elementary schooler because they looked cool and I got discounts
-
Wow Bubblecat, that's pretty amazing!
-
it was cool and got me into a lot of stuff and it was a really popular place with MTG and pokemon tournaments every weekend, but they closed because my aunt and uncle who owned it together got into a fight and got divorced, rip :poh:
-
Watched Sailor Moon, Cardcaptors, DBZ and Digimon as a kid. Never turned back.
-
Oh. Right.
I watched Digimon and Pokemon as well.
-
Aside from the regular Pokemon, Digimon, and Yugioh everyone was into, my first anime was Sailor Moon. In the short time I had cable I was just fascinated with how girly it was. It came on right before Dragon Ball, so I just told my parents that I was just killing time before Dragon Ball came on. I went a long time before actively watching anime, I saw Bleach, Inuyasha, Fullmetal Alchemist and FLCL on Cartoon Network. Fooly Cooly really impacted me, the visuals and the music were just what I needed to see at that time in my life. I started downloading some dubs, Fruits Basket and Haruhi were some of them I don't remember the rest. I think Lucky Star was my first fansub.
-
I started downloading some dubs
:smoke:
-
its better than streaming dubs
-
Probably Pokemon. It was always on TV and I noticed other shows had the same art style lol. Thus, the adventure began.
-
Was into it since I remember.
I'm so 2d I shit dakimakuras.
-
im too into 2d right now i think

Honestly i dont really know. I never really watched anything from the occasional dragonball episode or pokemon growing up. I liked japanese games and hated spanish class when i was in highschool so i said fuck it and took japanese instead. I tried getting into anime, watched trigun and loved it but that was about it. In my last year of highschool i actually got to go to japan to tour with a local symphony orchestra i was playing with at the time and the girl i spent most of my time with in my host family was a complete fujoshi, but was awesome. she took me to akihabara, i went on a date with her friend, showed me around and introduced me to otaku culture. I started getting interested in it then. In the next couple years i watched a couple of the classics, azumanga, read all of FMA that was out at the time (still need to read the last few volumes), and it kinda simmered. Then i found the world of buying manga from my used book store. It all went down hill from there, well that and watching panty and stocking. Now i have easily 500+ volumes of manga, 60+ figures, japanese books games, 2 dakimakuras, ect. and i dont regret it one bit.
tl;dr - a fujoshi in japan got me into anime.
-
Damn that's a rather unique way to get into it to say the least. :sing:
-
I-it's best not to dwell on what could have been :sad2:
-
Frankly, I was enamored with all the anime on YTV as a kid. Especially Dragon Ball Z. Things just kind of went from there.
Do not think about how different everything would have been had you not wasted your life on anime.
Do not do it.

Suicide watch begins now

I watched Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 during its original run on toonami when I was about 7 and was immediately hooked. From there I went to Mobile Fighter G Gundam (somehow missing Wing despite apparently being the series everyone started on) and watched random stuff on toonami. I was really into One Piece in 8th grade. I took a little break from anime in high school, I didn't really watch or play much of anything during that time. Got back into it a couple years ago and have been more obsessed than ever.
In hindsight, I guess I watched anime before I was 7. The church I went to when I was little had a bunch of Christian shows on VHS and they had a couple episodes of Superbook. And yes, in case you forgot, Tatsunoko DID have an anime about 2 kids and their wind up robot who had a magical bible that transported them to bible times so they could learn a valuable lesson about life and the bible.
So.... thanks for anime Jesus!

Bit late for me to posting in this thread, but whatever.
I started with Card Captors.
I watched it as a kid, and re-watched it a few years later out of nostalgia.
After that, I went around asking for reccomendations from my friends.
I watched Welcome to the NHK next dubbed and really enjoyed it.
Those shows hold a special place in my heart.

I watched Pokémon and yugiho when I was little. Then nothing until I was in my first year in university. Until then, I tough all anime were shonen-like (I don't like shonen). A little bit before my winter exams I watched chuunibyou, then went on/a/ and it all went downhill from there.
I don't regret watching anime, I made friends thanks to this medium. In high school I spent all my time on videogame and, in retrospect, if I didn't put that time in videogame I would just have stayed home reading books. I also made friends thanks to videogame, so I regret nothing. :sparkle:

Watched a bunch of shounen shows when I was a little kid
Got into 4chan and internet culture when I became a recluse in HS
Watched a bunch of anime based on recommendations from friends/people on /a/
It all went uphill from there :yay:
