I'm making a big post in 30min-1h but basically I think we have good foundation for the world. We didn't mention any notable character yet, but what I think we're going to do is that we'll begin with the characters creation and make the faces pops at the same time you're building your story.

Ok, so first here's a summary of what we said and some additions by me, hopefully it's enough to help you imagine where you character stands in this mess.

2136, the world has changed. After years of recession and sometimes political instability, people have lost their faith in the government. Using the disdain and sometime outright hate of politics of the people, the big corporation and wealthy people managed to tear down years of socialism. At first, the economy took a fresh start and everyone's live improved. Using argument as "you only really care if you sacrifice something for it", the wealthy, using the people gratefulness, passed law assuring that they'll stay in power forever. The most notorious one being the pay-to-vote decree, who allowed the politician not to need to convince the poor anymore.

Starting from this, the nepotism and old-boy network activities didn't need to be shy anymore and politics became about buying the vote of millionaire and more by granting them privilege.

Years after, here we are. You live in a stratified society where you can only rise so much. For those on the top, life is very good. The technological advancement made life longer, easier and healthier. If you're on the bottom, you will probably face dilemma like "how much have I to starve myself in order to afford a 20 years old home improved prosthetic arm to replace the one I lost while working at the factory?".

Some try to change the system, but thank to the pay-to-vote law, a peaceful change seems impossible. But with the new androids and weapon systems, an armed revolution seems to be doomed too. For now activist have no choice but to work from the shadow, constantly fearing for something to happen to them, should they become too influential.

You live in neo Tokyo and are born either from the high class, the middle class or the lover one. If you're from the high class, you enjoyed a life of luxury and had access to anything your advanced society could produce. Thank to your family network and/or business, you will or already have a high level job with prestige and authority. Of course even in this class there are different wealth level but, from an average Joe standpoint, swimming in tons of money or tons of tons of money makes little to no differences.

If you're from the middle class it's usually thank to your and maybe your parent's work and/or specific sets of skills. You have a skill-set interesting and rare enough that your corporate overlord would be annoyed if he had to replace you, so he has an interest in giving you enough money to live longer and be in a good to excellent condition to work. Even if you're living a comfortable life, you know that, should your company go bankrupt or fire you, you may well end in an assembly line.

As for the lower class, their children usually begins to work at the same job as their parent once they finish the short, mandatory state financed school. Usually this means working at a factory or working at the not-so-successful family business like your father's tinware company.

Neo-Tokyo had of course a lot of problem, be it gang criminality or, from time to time, more serious things like sudden high-level toxic air pollution due to some guy's factory either exploding or just avoiding the light "ecological" inspection because said guy dropped a lot of money under the table of another guy. Of course for the richer ones those problems are usually a 5 minutes talk during the evening news program, so it's not like it's such a big deal.

So here's a small overview of how I view the world. Please say so if you feel like one of your idea was too much overlooked. Now we're going to do a more in-depth character creation, I will write about it in my next post, that I'll begin to write just after posting this one.

Also here's the current state of the game creation sheet, so to say, for those interested :

Campaign name : API cute RPG campaign ~
Setting&Scale : Grim future. Character are going to play a role in a world-changing event, but the scale of their implication is still a mistery

Issues :
Current issue : Megacorp oppress the people and toy with the world, something bad is bound to come out of this
Impending issue : With (nearly) anyone noticing it, magic is appearing in the world

Face and places :
Tokyo megalopolis : Starting place, segregated by district : poor, industrial, rich and the like. The criminality is rising.

Now minna you will all have to begin your character creation.

This means that you have to come up with your character high concept and trouble. Your high concept will be your character idea, resumed in a few world. The book gives examples like "Low-level Thug" or more precise thing like "Low-level Thug for the Syndicate". The idea here is to have something you could use to claim an advantage "eh I'm a low-level thug I could have contacts in the black market", but I should also be able to use it to get you into trouble "this policeman recognize you, having already arrested you once, and so..."

It's ok if you have a high concept similar to someone's else, but try to make them a little bit different. For example "magical girl of frost" or "super cute magical girl" and so on.

You will also have to come up with your character trouble, which is either a personal struggle or a problematic relationship, or both. Like your high concept, you should be able to use it to claim an advantage but I should be able to use it to create you trouble. Some example of the rule book are "Anger Management Issues", "The Bottle Calls to Me" or "Debt to the Mob".

You can also write what we'll call your first adventure. You don't need to go into the details but it's used to determine an other aspect of your character, so put some though into it. Some example of Aspects given in the book are "I Owe Old Finn Everything", giving the character what could maybe be a mentor but also someone he may have to save or something, or "Smashing is always an option", showing that the character like to go in raw. For the magical girl wannabe, you can decide either to have your power awaken during this first, recent adventure or to have them awake during the introduction of the campaign. Do what you prefer.

No need to try to include other people's character in this first adventure, it will be done in the next step.

I admit that I still have trouble understanding what exactly is an Aspect and the like, so we'll try to make them together if you don't have any idea and hopefully we'll end with something good! :yay:

Anyways, from what I gathered from the book, aspects are elements of your character that you come up with yourself,  intended to reflect their traits and personality and be "neutral" things.

Anyways, will write up character in a few.

I want my character to be the CEO and primary shareholder of one of the smaller megacorporations.

She's filthy rich (compared to most people), and really slimy and underhanded. She knows there is no way to get ahead with how the world is set up now, so when Magical Girls start showing up, she realizes it's her chance to take down the big dogs.

So she has her R&D department make her a Driver to help her transform into a KAMEN RIDER to help the Magical Girls take down the big dog corporations. (So that she can be the one in charge, instead.)

I had the idea that maybe her younger sister is a Magical Girl, and they both decided that the best thing to do would be to siphon out the Magical Girl's magical power to power the Kamen Rider suit/driver thing to protect their rich lifestyle, since my character is older and more competent than her younger sister.

I was thinking about having a character who grows up very poor, always jelly of the richfags.
Then one day she discovers she has the magical power to print any form of currency.
However the police start getting suspicious of her for possible money laundering.
At first she has no real goals. She just wants to splurge on all the luxuries she missed out on and fuck off somewhere the police won't find her.
