I really like Bernie from Gundam 0080, because he's the opposite of all the other Gundam protagonists.
He builds himself up to Al as being something of an ace, just like most Gundam pilots.
But then it turns out that it's all a lie. The ace pilot that Al (and the kids who watch Gundam) romanticizes doesn't exist. In this way, it's deconstructing Gundam as a whole. Because in the real world, you and me wouldn't get to pilot the sickass prototype Gundam. We'd get stuck in a GM and probably have our faces blown off.
