Tekkaman Blade.
That was a brutal show for what it was. The designs of all the Tekkamen are great, as are the Radam. Everything looks disgusting, like aliens vomitted all over the enviroment.

Macross DYRL is probably the most beautiful retro anime I've ever seen.

Gunbuster was great too.

What counts as retro? 70s?  Most series I enjoy stem from the 70 to late 90s range. I feel the target audience was more adult and things where themed that way. Like your example on how brutal the visuals are. People say I'm a nostalgic person yet I only watched most of the anime series 5 years ago tops and unless I watched these series while I was swimming around inside a ball sack I feel it doesnr apply as being nostalgic in that way.

I haven't really watched too much retro anime. I've been watching Dr. Slump every now and then. I like it.

I always rewatch Cats Eye when I have nothing to do.  Love the series think lupin but all the thieves are sisters or cat women with 3 women.

Anything before the mid to late 90's. Admittingly there's something nostalgic about the visuals, I still don't think digital animation looks near as good even though there's been a lot of improvement since the early 2000s.

I think shittier anime from back then was more entertaining.
I miss the blood, guts, and gore.

You forget, the only bad anime we know of from back then is still anime someone, somewhere felt was good enough to buy, rip, and translate.

The really shitty stuff we'll likely never hear about without travelling to Japan and specifically asking Otaku from those eras about what they thought was garbage.

Shows that likely only still exist on withering VHS tapes buried in someones forgotten storage unit.

I like shitty harem.

Like, watching the whole 12 ep is too much, but the 1st 2-3 are usually a blast.
